Portugal’s world ambassador, Gatão, has taken root over the years as one of the most representative brands of Portuguese wine in international markets, and can now be found in approximately 50 countries on 5 continents. What has contributed to this is a story which began to unfold in 1895.

1895: For the first time Borges uses the image of a cat on a label.

1935: The launch of Gatão wine, initially as a red Vinho Verde.

The Fifties: The launch of the cantil bottle, with a handle, used as a lamp in many Portuguese households.

The Eighties: The launch of new cantil bottle type.

The Nineties: The launch of a new image and of a bordeaux bottle.

The Future: Gatão will continue to spread Portuguese charm throughout the world.

Gatão is a cool, light wine; youthful, entertaining and daring. It is a wine for moments of relaxation when we can “switch off” and be induced into a good mood. It is an ideal wine to accompany day-to-day activities, and which, due to its natural coolness, re-animates the spirit.

rosé

Gatão Rosé has a clear, transparent appearance, pinky, with a light release of gas. On the nose it emits a youthful, fruity aroma. It has a delicate, soft fresh taste.

Gatão Vinho Verde boasts some unique characteristics, justifying its high international procurement. Visually, it presents a clear aspect, the colour of lemon, and a slight release of gas. On the nose it reveals a youthful, fruity aroma. In the mouth it is soft, delicate, cool and fruity.

Gatão, a world citizen

What does Gatão symbolize for you? It was a challenge launched by the Sociedade dos Vinhos Borges on the theme of “Gatão, a world citizen”.
Marisa Freitas took up the challenge and won a trip to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for two people.
